Mt Tamborine Picnic Scenic Rim Sarah Latham

Located just outside the Gold Coast (and just south of Brisbane), the Scenic Rim is a must do South East Queensland location and the perfect place to spend one day (or many more) exploring.

If you are short on time (or prefer day trips), you can sample some of the best of the Scenic Rim by following this easy one day itinerary.

Start your Scenic Rim Day with Alpacas

Yes, you read that right. The Scenic Rim is home to Mountview Alpaca Farm (location here), an alapaca farm set on a vineyard. You can book your time to walk and feed an alpaca. There is also a kitchen serving food.

Explore Tamborine National Park and Discover Curtis Falls

After you’ve been alpaca’d out, hop back in your car and head 30 minutes north to Curtis Falls Walking Track in Tamborine National Park. Once you arrive follow the rainforest path through to Curtis Falls before continuing on the lush rainforest circuit track.

Enjoy a sunset picnic with a view

Stop by the IGA SUPA (or wherever you desire) in Mount Tamborine to stock up on your picnic essentials (cheese!) before heading to a Mt Tamborine Lookout (you can find the location of this photo here).

Don’t forget a picnic blanket and if it’s cool or windy a blanket is always a win. This is a popular sunset activity so expect other people here also relaxing and watching the view.

Admire the stars at Lake Moogerah

After the sun has gone down finish your day out in the Scenic Rim by going stargazing at Lake Moogerah. Tucked away far from the city lights, the sheer amount of stars you can see here is phenomenal (double win if you’re interested in astrophotography)

Lake Moogerah is also a camping ground if you wish to stay the night. You can find Lake Moogerah here.
