How I visited Lanzarote

I was invited to Lanzarote with Jet2. Perfect for booking luxury holidays (at reasonable prices!), Jet2 flights to Lanzarote and accommodation and activities for your holidays to Lanzarote, Jet2 has a number of flights from London Stansted Airport, making it really easy to visit this Instagrammable island (found only a 4 hour flight from the English capital!). You can read all about my Jet2 Lanzarote trip here: Jet2 Lanzarote: Your ultimate 3 day Lanzarote guide.

1. Famara Beach

One of the best things to do is Lanzarote is hit the beach and Famara Beach is popular for good reason. Its dramatic cliffside towers over beach-goers and surfers, bringing a really interesting contrast to your images. My tip: bring out a zoom lens (or zoom on a good phone camera), place yourself quite far away in the distance and zoooooom in. It’ll emphasise the difference in your size vs. the incredible surrounding landscape more so than a photo using a standard zoom (suggested read: 13 photography tips for taking better photos). You can find the Lanzarote Instagrammable Famara Beach at the north-west of the island (Google Maps location here)

2. Lanzarote Instagrammable Town of Teguise

Lanzarote’s former capital, Teguise is one of the most Instagrammable towns in Lanzarote. With gorgeous white buildings, tropical trees and, if you go outside of market day, likely to have less crowds, Teguise is the perfect background for a photo opportunity. As you wander through this village, you’ll find countless number of photo opportunities. You can find Teguise on Google Maps here.

3. The Molina de Teguise windmill

When looking for your next Instagrammable spot in Lanzarote, you don’t need to go too far. On the slight outskirts of the older part of Teguise (but remember, Teguise is quite small so you’re not going too far!) is a beautiful old windmill called Molinda de Teguise. When taking an Instagrammable photo here, you can use yourself in the front of the frame to showcase the scale of the old windmill, and I’d recommend wearing a similar white and black outfit to match the structure, or go like me and choose a colour that will help you stand out against the background! You can find this Lanzarote Instagrammable windmill on Google Maps here.

4. Timanfaya National Park, next to the El Diablo Restaurant.

Timanfaya National Park is arguably the most popular tourist sight in Lanzarote. Home to spectacular views across volcanic land and Lanzarote’s only active volcano, Timanfaya National Park is not only an incredible place to understand Lanzarote’s ancient history, it’s also (unsurprisingly) full of Lanzarote Instagrammable places and photo spots. One of the best spots to snap a picture is right next to the El Diablo Restaurant (suggested read: Where to eat and drink in Lanzarote). This is a highly convenient Lanzarote Instagrammable spot as it is also where the coaches leave to explore the National Park. You’ll find it on the right of the entrance as you’re walking in (Google Maps location here).

5. Timanfaya National Park Road

If you do your Instagram research before coming to Timanfaya National Park, you’ll have seen one very Lanzarote Instagrammable friendly road. Snaking off into the distance, with the volcanic landscape on either side, you can capture the perfect Lanzarote Instagrammable shot by snapping a picture as you walk off down the road away from the camera. If you want to visit this road, be sure to arrive early in the morning, as by the afternoon there is more traffic, which can make the road too difficult (and dangerous) to grab a pic.

6. Timanfaya National Park Signs

One of the most well known emblems in Lanzarote is the Instagrammable Timanfaya National Park sign. More than just your regular sign post, there is a story behind Timanfaya that is reflected in the sign design (you can read about the story here). As you explore TImanfaya National Park, you’ll see this sign in many places, so be sure to pull over where you can to snap a quick iconic Lanzarote Instagrammable picture while exploring.

7. El Golfo, Lanzarote Instagrammable green lake

Not too far away from Timanfaya National Park, is another fantastic Lanzarote Instagrammable spot: El Golfo. Like Timanfaya National Park, the El Golfo landscape is heavily influenced by the volcanic origins of Lanzarote, with its black sand beach, striking cliffs and, of course, the algae-made vivid green lake that is a stunning feature for any Lanzarote Instagram picture. You can find El Golfo beside Timanfaya National Park on the western side of Lanzarote on Google Maps here.

8. Haria in the Valley of Thousand Palms

When visiting Lanzarote, you need to make sure Haria is on your Lanzarote Instagrammable list. Found in the northern part of Lanzarote (Google Maps location here), this village is surrounded by thousands of palm trees (that’s how the valley got its name!). A few centuries ago, it was traditional for the village to plant a palm tree for each child born, and while I’m sure they weren’t thinking of the potential Lanzarote Instagrammable opportunities when they did it, it’s certainly a big reason why you should add Haria to your Lanzarote Instagrammable list.

9. Flowers in Haria: Plaza de la Constitución

As you wander through Haria, be sure to keep your eyes out for more than just palm trees. The centre of town is known for its beautiful flowers (although the time of year you visit will impact how dominant the flowers are against the green) and you can find a beautiful array of them at the Plaza de la Constitución (Google Maps location here).

10. Bodega Stratvs Winery

Combine a love of photos with a love of drinking wine (I mean, sampling, of course) at Bodega Stratvs winery. Found in the La Geria region of Lanzarote, this Instagrammable winery boasts incredible views over the volcanos, and is also very picture friendly throughout the winery tour (think barrels of wine, beautifully designed architecture). You can find the Bodega Stratvs winery on the outskirts of Timanfaya National Park (which partly explains why it’s a Lanzarote Instagrammable spot).

11. Lanzarote Instagrammable pool at Jameos del Agua

Like the look of this pool? So do a lot of us. The Jameos del Agua pool is one of the most well known and Instagrammable Lanzarote sights. While it looks beautiful, sadly swimming is forbidden (although word on the street is the King of Spain is allowed to – must be nice having royal perks). There is more to Jameos del Agua than Lanzarote Instagrammable pool, this area is actually a part of a 6km long lava tube. My top photo tip: showcase landscape from a higher point of view, for example: this photo below is taken from a set of stairs that overlooked the pool – it is an easy way to fit more of a beautiful background into your image. You can find Jameos del Agua on Google Maps here.

12. Jameos del Agua Restaurant

Set against part of the 6km long lava tube, the Jameos del Agua restaurant is one of the most Instagrammable restaurants in Lanzarote. With gigantic hanging baskets, green cactus, and a vibrant orange coloour scheme, this restaurant is airy, cool and overlooks both part of the cave and the lake filled lava tube. 13. Lanzarote Instagrammable (and incredible) Cueva de los Verdes

Like the Jameos del Agua, the Cueva de los Verdes is set within the 4,000 year old lava tubes that reach through part of Lanzarote and is one of the most incredible and Instagrammable places in Lanzarote. Join a guided tour which winds through the lava tubes and brush up on your low-light photography skills (or be very good at holding your camera steady on an automatic setting), because the photo opportunities in Caueva de los Verdes are very good.

14. Lanzarote Instagrammable hotel pools

Being a tourist destination, if there is one thing Lanzarote isn’t short on, it’s hotel pools. Wake up early and in between dodging everyone claiming pool chairs with their towels, snap a few pictures at sunrise (it’s worth the early start for less people in the pool in your photos!). This one below was snapped at the Jet2holidays Barcelo Lanzarote Royal Level hotel.
