Looking for the perfect place to stay on your Taipei holiday? As a city with a number of different neighbourhoods, it can be hard to determine what is the best neighbourhood in Taipei to stay in and once you’ve worked out the best accommodation in that neighbourhood. amba Taipei Songshan Hotel
The amba collection boasts a small number of boutique design hotels situated within Taipei. The amba Taipei Songshan Hotel is one of such hotels and is found in (as the name suggests) next to the Songshan Station, making it both a gorgeous hotel and also very well located. Situated at the top of a Taipei skyscraper (with the views to match!) read on to discover everything you want to know about amba Taipei Songshan Hotel.
amba Taipei Songshan Hotel: The room
First off, we’ll start with the room at the amba Taipei Songshan Hotel. As you can see below the room was incredibly spacious, but still held its own personality in the quirky design embedded throughout. In addition to the comfort, each room is fitted with modern day conveniences like universal plugs (so you can use your own plug rather than relying on an adaptor) and a speaker system where you can connect and play your own music. All rooms also come with an espresso machine and pods so coffee is available to you 24/7. Important to note: If you are travelling with family or friends you can request adjoining rooms with an internal dividing door so you can remain connected throughout your holiday.
One of my favourite things about the amba Taipei Songshan Hotel was the really cool way they’ve decorated the room numbers in the hallway. Situated on the upper levels of a Taipei skyscraper, you’ll find the hotel rooms across levels 18 and above. Each room has been decorated with a story about the year that room number correlates to. A few of my favourite ones are shown below.

One of the main attraction points for this hotel is its incredible view across Taipei and, in particular, the Taipei 101 building. Being situated so high (my room was on the 20th floor) you get insane views across Taiwan’s capital, which only improve at night once the city turns into a map of sparkling lights. If you choose a room with a view, you’ll be treated to this sight each time you get out of bed in the morning.

What’s around amba Taipei Songshan hotel
Now you’ve learnt about the rooms and the view, it’s time to talk about the location. The amba Taipei Songshan hotel is found within walking distance to many iconic Taipei locations and has easy access to other locations slightly out of walking distance (more on this below). When you stay at amba Taipei Songshan hotel you can visit the famous Raohe Street Markets every night if you desire as the markets are found a quick 7 minute walk from the hotel (Google Maps directions here).
In addition to the Raohe Street Night Markets, staying at amba Taipei Songshan hotel means you are also in walking distance (again, just 7 minutes) from the famous Songshan Ciyou Temple (Google Maps directions here).
The surrounding area is also lively in a great way with a number of clothing, food and local markets in the surrounding streets. Once you’ve explored the area and gotten your fix of Taipei street life, you’re only minutes away from retreating back to the cool and calming lobby of the hotel.

The amba Taipei Songshan hotel shuttle bus to Taipei 101
In addition to the many attractions within walking distance from amba Taipei Songshan Hotel, they also offer a free shuttle bus to the famous Taipei 101 which runs six to eight times a day and will take you directly into the Taipei 101 area. Just ask the reception for timings.
amba Taipei Songshan Hotel is very well connected
In addition to the fantastic sights within walking distance and the shuttle to the Taipei 101 building, this hotel is very well connected to more Taipei must do sights. This amba hotel is located right next to the Songshan Train Station (Google Maps location here) and, not only that, but there is a direct link from the train station to the hotel – meaning you don’t need to even go onto the street if you don’t want to. When you arrive at the Songshan Train Station, head up into the shopping centre situated above the train station and leave via the East entrance/exit. This will bring you to a bridge that links you directly with the hotel building. The shopping centre is only open until 10pm each day, but you can still use this bridge to go to the train station whatever time you want to. The bridge also makes for a great abstract style photo.
In addition to the Songshan Train Station, this hotel is also in walking distance to a useful bus station (just a three minute walk – Google Maps directions here). Let’s not forget the delicious breakfast
Fuel up for each day of exploring Taipei with a delicious breakfast. There is a variety of breakfast options available each day including Taiwanese and western options as well as a design your own egg station. The kitchen is definitely a feature of the hotel and restaurant and its wood stove provides beautiful aromas.
Talk about convenience!
One major positive about staying at the amba Taipei Songshan hotel is the free laundry – yes you read that right. There is a free self-serve laundry available on the 18th floor meaning that you can use your time staying here to wash and dry all your clothes. As I visited during long term travels across Asia, this was fantastic to use. And, as with all good hotels, amba Taipei Songshan comes with a free and well equipped gym.
The finer details that make the amba Taipei Songshan Hotel
As you wander around the hotel you’ll see a lot of beautiful finishing touches that really add to the charm of this hotel. This includes these magnificent lanterns (as pictured below) are hand woven and 3m long. amba Taipei Songshan Hotel supported the local community in commissioning them and these pieces of art took six people fourteen days to complete. The carpet that adorns the floor is made from recyclable material as a part of amba Taipei Songshan Hotels continued commitment to improving their environmental impact.
